Discovery Box - Gallery resource for children at Uillinn West Cork Art Centre

Each Discovery Box translates the themes and ideas of an exhibition to encorage play and exploration for young children and their carers.

The Discovery Box for Mary Kelly’s Chair exhibition at Uillinn West Cork Art Centre in 2018.

The first image shows black felt shadows which children arrange on the floor to match the chair in the exhibition and the small yellow chair from the Discovery Box. This is a chance to explore the world of shadow and the change from a 3d object to a representation in 2 d. It is also more subtlety building on Kelly’s themes of the psychological aspect of the chair, inviting carers to think about the ‘shadow process’ and highlighting this in referring to Van Gogh’s Yellow Chair.
